Your new floor sounds gorgeous, but I can understand why it is making your house feel darker. If you want to make your room feel lighter stick to pale colors and especially cool colors, which are blues and greens. Personally, I would go with a very pale blue – I have a pale blue painted kitchen, with 2 walls of chocolate oak cabinets. Pale blue looks absolutely stunning against all woods, especially dark wood. The pale blue I used is from Dulux, called ‘First Dawn’. If it feels a bit cold or sterile (it shouldn’t against the wood, though) add some accents of a deep vibrant turquoise, or bright red, or a similar tone of dusky/rose pink. Leave the ceiling white, to help your room feel lighter, and go for uplighters (which light the ceiling) and a big mirror to reflect the light. You could also try breaking up the expanse of dark floor, with a pale rug, again to keep the light feel in the room. Good luck with your decorating project.
