What community service opportunities are available for Macalester students?
The Macalester community prides itself in its dedication to community service. There are many volunteer opportunities within the Twin Cities, both on and off campus. Off campus, students donate their time at a wide variety of organizations, including ESL tutoring at various schools, Planned Parenthood, Agape Home, which is a local AIDS hospice, and Shriner’s Hospital for Disabled Children, to name just a few. There is a Civic Engagment Center located on campus, which provides students with contacts in the community, and there is also a student organization, Maction, which sponsors one-time events on campus. Some recent activities have been a campus-wide blood drive, a Halloween party for area children, and Into the Streets, a one-day service event that encourages students to volunteer locally.
