What consists of a SOHC to DOHC swap?
Easiest way is to swap the whole motor. You get an easy 25hp and better modability. Do the transmission at the same time, as the SOHC tranny is geared longer which is slower for n/a applications. You can use the same fuel system, though the DOHC has larger injectors. The DOHC PCM will work, but you’ll have higher rev limits. I’d put in a SOHC PCM and gauge cluster. Everything else wires up just the same. You’ll need new spark plug wires, though. Just swapping the head doesn’t get you the full power because the SOHC uses different pistons, so you end up with a low compression DOHC. It’s probably not worth the swap. My suggestion is to drop in a DOHC with a new clutch and MP3 (that’s the factory DOHC tranny, the SOHC comes with an MP2) all together. It’s the simplest way to increase performance dramatically.
