What constitutes an IBA?
To receive IBA designation, the area must meet strict scientific criteria. There are four levels of significance, global (worldwide), regional (U.S. Canada, Mexico), national (U.S.), and state (MO). Criteria are based upon numerical thresholds (numbers of individuals), which vary between significance level. Global, regional, and national criteria are set by the National Technical Committee, and state level criteria are set by the state technical committee. State level criteria vary from state to state, and are meant to serve each states unique conservation needs.
