What could cause a sudden loss of a large amount of hair?
An illness, pregnancy, rapid weight loss or gain, and drug use, can all cause temporary hair loss. This often occurs when the ratio of growing to resting hairs is disturbed and more growing hair shifts into a resting phase and falls out. As with hair loss after the birth of a child, this condition is temporary and the hair should return.
