What could cause a swollen lymph node in the neck for over a year?

2 years ago I had one on my neck for over a year – doc thought a cyst but sent to a ENT specialist who though a lymph node – checked down my throat and didn’t find anything and then a fine needle biopsy – looking for cancer but it came back clear and was told it was an inf lammed lymph node but they couldn’t find out why, then scanned but no results and suggested an operation to double check for cancer cells but I refused, they arranged for a stronger scan to be done and by this time the lump had gone and the doctor said there is nothing there it is not cancer but I have nodules on my thyroid – several blood tests later diagnosed with under active thyroid and the starts of type 2 diabetes. I had the year from hell. Check out the endocrine system, all about lymph nodes, neck lumps deal with the upper parts of the body and groin lymph nodes with the stomach and bowels and in females the reproduction area.
