What country does New Zealand have the most in common with and why?

Going back a few years, it would have been Great Britain. Many of the Pakeha (white) people in New Zealand came from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, so there were huge ties to what was called “The home country.” With TV and the Internet, other countries have had some influence, so some things have become more “Americanised.” Another influence has been the immigration of people from the Pacific Islands. However, although the numbers of Polynesian people has increased, I would not say that NZ has the most in common with these countries. Probably the country that NZ has the most in common with now is Australia. They both have indigenous people who have not always received the treatment they deserve (although NZ’s record is probably better than Australia’s in that respect). Both Australia and New Zealand are part of the Commonwealth, which means they both have a Governor-General and see the Queen of Britain as their figurehead (although both countries have republican movements agains
