Hi I’m a salon owner, my training was salon based over 20 something years ago lol, a full time job with a day release to college earning £29.50 a week. I now employ apprentice’s who attend college once a week and work in the salon for the remained of the week. They start off on £80 a week, which is the standard apprentice wage. There are different training facilities out there, I training school or government colleges. With many of the the training schools you will not be able to claim EMA, which you would if you attended a government run college. You would be enrolled on a NVQ level 2 Hairdressing course, which normally lasts for 2 years. The first year you complete the level one stage (which involves learning the basics like washing hair, reception work, mixing colours etc), moving on to level two in the second year (cutting, colouring techinics, perming etc).
