What defines chemical fertilizer?
Inorganic materials are processed to produce plant nutrients synthetically. The result is chemical fertilizers. As they are artificially produced, acids are often a component of chemical fertilizers. These acids are frequently damaging to the microorganisms that live in the soil. Because of this, plant growth can actually be stunted by the use of chemical fertilizers. Organic fertilizer vs. chemical fertilizer A common problem home gardeners face is a deficiency of nutrients in the soil. Fertilizers are used to alleviate this problem. Chemical fertilizers do have one advantage over organic fertilizers and that is chemical fertilizers are composed of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus (the three major nutrients) at high levels.
