What did people eat during the Renaissance?
Do you mean the Italian renaissance or the “English Renaissance” (Elizabethan era)? If you mean the elizabethan era, it depends on their class. Lower class people would eat healthier food like grains and vegetables because it was cheap and easily attainable. Stews were common as they could make a small amount of meat go along way. The upper classes would eat foods that was considered to be more of a luxury, like meat and sweets. Meat dishes often included dried fruit and/or nuts. Spices and salt were also very expensive. They had fish days on fridays and saturdays where they were not allowed to eat meat There is a list of common elizabethan food items here: http://elizabethan.org/compendium/47.
