Progressives accomplished: Social welfare – settlement houses; Salvation Army soup kitchens and nurseries. There were muckrakers – journalists who wrote about corruption in business and politics. Robert La Follette, the Governor of Wisconsin, put forth the “Wisconsin Idea” – state regulation of railroads (lower rates, equalized (higher) taxes, no free rides). “The will of the people shall be the law of the land.
