What do acorns taste like? Can they be cooked?

0

Acorns, the fruit of the oak tree, can be eaten but raw they can be very bitter due to the high concentrate of tannins in them. They have a slight nutty taste. The best way to use them or eat them is to boil the shelled acorns for a few hours and change the water a few times to leech out the tannins from the acorns. Then they are best roasted or baked which will increase the nutty flavour. After roasting or baking they made also be ground into flour. One word of warning though, tannins can be irritants so it is best to get the tannins out of the acorns before ingesting.
