What do Bilingual EC-6 Fellows teach?
Bilingual EC-6 Fellows can be hired to teach children in any grade from Kindergarten through 6th grade. They can be hired to teach in one or all core areas – Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts – to children as other Elementary Generalists do, except that they sometimes teach in Spanish. They also need to be prepared to use strategies that will help develop students’ language skills in their first language and in their second language, and to use strategies to help second language learners understand the content they are teaching in the language it is being taught. ESL is an intensive form of English Language instruction by teachers who are trained to work with second language learners. Instruction in an ESL setting is focused on language skills in English and is generally conducted entirely in English. Please note that there are limited
