What do eggs, chocolate bunnies and Jesus all have in common?
Eggs and bunnies are used as fertility symbols for the pagan celebration of Ostara, the first day of spring. While the Christians were trying to convert the pagans to their religion, they took elements of Ostara and incorporated them into their EASTER (the names are even similar), in an attempt to make the “transition” smoother. Have you ever wondered why Easter shifts on the calendar from year to year? Easter is always celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the first day of spring. That in itself is a very pagan way of selecting a day to celebrate. If you look at other major Christian holidays, the same holds true. Yule is celebrated on the first day of winter, usually Dec. 21, christmas, December 25; Samhain and Halloween are both celebrated on October 31; and Imbolc and Groundhog’s Day are both celebrated on February 2.
