What do I do about a noisy neighbour?
Firstly it is worth talking to the neighbour on a calm, informal basis as he/she may not be aware of the nuisance being caused. This is best done soon after the problem has occurred, but not in the heat of the moment! Do not, however, approach them if you think that they will be violent. If the noise continues, write to the person, or organisation. Explain the problem clearly. Keep a copy of the letter and note the date when it was sent. Keep an accurate record. Talk to other neighbours. If the noise persists you can register a formal complaint and we will investigate to see if a statutory nuisance exists. If the person making the noise is a tenant of a Council House, Housing Association or Private Landlord you may also wish to contact the landlord to see if action can be taken under the terms of their tenancy agreement.
