You should have a discussion with your Course Director at the beginning of the year about the rules and procedures concerning unacademic practice, and some allowance for investigating suspected cases should be included in the calculation of the 270 hours. Each course outline handed out to students in this Department includes a statement on unacademic practice. You should review it with your students and answer any questions that they may have. If you suspect a student has plagiarized an essay in whole or in part, you must alert the Course Director about your suspicions. He or she has the responsibility of taking whatever further action is appropriate. If additional work beyond the 270 hours is required to investigate a case of suspected plagiarism, permission must be obtained from the Chair before any work is undertaken. In addition, the Undergraduate Director should be consulted to offer advice on how to expedite the investigation. A copy of the penalties and procedures for unacademic
