If your kitten gets stuck in the canal and the mommy lets you, you can gently pull on the baby to help get it out. Try to do so without breaking the umbilical cord. If she does not lick the membrane off the kitten try sticking it under her nose. If this does not stimulate her, clean off the kitten with a clean white towel, except for the after birth and umbilical cord. Then place the remains of such under her nose and encourage her to eat them. Eating the afterbirth actually stimulates the next labor contraction to allow the other kitties to be born; it also gives her the energy she needs to complete the labor and delivery. If this is her first litter she may not know to do these things, so helping her this time will aid in future litterings. This is not to say you may not have to get the attention of an emergency vet. But these few hints will give you a little heads up. Good luck.
