As I plan my own wedding I toyed with the idea as well. I did a bit of research and found a degree in Event Coordination is helpful. Right now I'm almost done with my BFA in Interior Design and I'm currently interning at an architectural/interior firm, I dont know how helpful all that is goin to be, but I figure after I try my hand at Interior maybe I'll do a career change halfway though life and try my hand at wedding planning. As a fellow designer, you know the importance of a portfolio, well the same applies here. Unless your willing to go back to school and start over, you sort of have to start from the bottom. See if your friends will let you plan their weddings (take lots of pictures and document everything). Learn as much as you can about all different kinds of weddings (here at answers, magazines, websites, etc).
