What do I need to become a UK primary school teacher?

First off, you need GCES Maths, English and Science (all at grade c or above.) You’ll need a degree, followed by a PGCE (post graduate certificate in education) OR a BEd (degree in education which can be three years or 4.) The PGCE year is very intensive though and hard work, if you do it properly! A good start would be to volunteer at a local primary school. You’ll need this anyway before you can apply for university places for an education degree / PGCE and it’ll give you a taste of whether its right for you. Its worth remembering that teaching is a very demanding job, but the rewards in terms of job satisfaction are huge.
