Refrigerators, air conditioners or any other item that contains or at one time had contained a chemical coolant must first have the Freon removed by a certified technician, who will apply a sticker to the item indicating that it has been removed, making it safe for landfill disposal. In the case of refrigerators or freezers, the door should also be removed as a safety precaution.
