I’m a Japanese woman, so I can only tell you about the people around me, but we LOVE sweets more than salty snacks. Western sweets such as chocolate, candy, cookies, of course. Some major companies within Japan are Glico, Meiji, Fujiya, Morinaga, Kanebo, etc. There is also a very big market for cakes. The US fad of cupcakes is starting to slowly creep into mainstream snacking, but the “hip” sweet right now is macaroons. http://www.pierreherme.co.jp/item/ We also like to eat traditional Japanese sweets as well, such as red bean paste buns, known as Wagashi. http://japanesefood.about.com/cs/dessert… Also, fruits. It has a few cool recipes but in general I think you’re better off finding an eating philosophy that works for you personally. I know that the idea of “grazing” eating many small meals a day is popular now for weight loss, but it just doesn’t work for me, for example. I stick to 4 scheduled meals a day.
