What do people eat and drink in Barbados?
Lots of Barbadians eat ground provisions like yam (can also be creamed (mashed) with milk, margarine, salt and white pepper), cassava, sweet potatoes (can be in a pie with pineapple), eddoes and breadfruit (can be in a Cou Cou (mashed)). Additionally, Rice is a favourite especially with peas cooked in it. Alternatively rice can be cooked with the meat in it like a Pelau. The peas can be pigeon peas, black beans, kidney beans, split peas (green or yellow), and chick peas etc. Macaroin Pie is also a favourite and is made with pasta and cheese with a little onion, sweetpepper, ketchup, dry mustard and a little salt before baking in the oven. For stews we use meat like lamb, pork, oxtails, poultry like chicken, turkey and different types of fish like Mahi Mahi, Flying Fish, Sword fish, King Fish and Bill fish etc. Generally we fry the fish or steam it in a little gravy and we bake the chicken or boil it. There are many other ways that we cook the meats as well. For drinks we use the Bajan
