What do pine martens eat?
Pine martens have a varied diet and eat small mammals such as voles and rabbits, birds and their eggs, mammal carrion, reptiles, amphibians, fish, crustaceans, beetles, fruit, berries, hazelnuts and fungi. In the autumn, berries may make up as much as 30% of the pine marten’s diet. In parts of Scotland and Ireland, a lucky few have been able to lure pine martens to their homes or to wildlife hides with a well-loved snack – peanut butter and jam!
