What do the terms FT14 and FT14-10 mean with respect to Spirax Sarco products?

The term FT is used by Spirax Sarco to define their family of ball float steam traps. ‘F’ means ‘float’ and ‘T’ means ‘thermostatic’. As all Spirax float traps are operated by a ball float and contain a separate thermostatic sensing capsule, the complete family is defined with the term FT. Within the Spirax Sarco float trap family exist different ranges which differ due to materials, sizes, capacities etc. These are defined as FT14, FT16, FT43, FT44 etc. Most Spirax Sarco float traps are built with three different sizes of orifices to cater for three different maximum differential pressures, which are 4.5 bar, 10 bar, and 14 bar respectively, although higher pressure float traps are available to operate up to 21 bar and 32 bar differential pressures. Each of these has to be designated, and is done so by simply adding the differential pressure to the range term, for example, an FT14-10 float trap is able to operate up to a maximum differential pressure of 10 bar.
