What do the terms “on order” and “in process” in the librarys catalog mean?

If you are searching for an item in our catalog and come across a catalog entry that says the item is “on order,” that means that our acquisitions staff have placed an order for that particular title but we do not yet have it in the library. Most of the time, items we order arrive at the library within 6 weeks of our order. However, some items arrive after a shorter time period, some take much longer, and some items, unfortunately, never arrive because they have gone out of print or are out of stock indefinitely. If you come across a catalog entry that says the item is “in process,” that means that we have ordered and received the item, and it is in the Technical Services area of the library being prepared for use. Processing includes receiving/approving the item for payment, completing the cataloging process, and labeling the item. Processing an item usually takes between one and two weeks. During processing, an item is not usually available for check out, but occasionally exceptions
