WHAT DO THE VARIOUS SYMBOLS ON THE BATTERIES AND PACKAGING MEAN ?
Batteries containing a certain amount of mercury, cadmium or lead are subject to the European Directives Nos. 91/157 and 93/86 and must be identified with the symbol of a crossed-through-roll-out-container including the chemical symbol for mercury, cadmium or lead (whatever is applicable). Additionally the battery industry committed themselves to add the three-chasing-arrows ISO recycling symbol to indicate the recyclability of these batteries. In Germany a “Green Point” symbol printed on the packaging signals that the consumer may put it into the “Yellow Sack (or bag)” for recycling. Battery manufacturer carry the costs arising from collection and disposal of the battery packaging.
