What do women (and men) need to know about fertility in order to avoid unintended pregnancy?
Unplanned pregnancies can occur at any age during the woman’s fertile years and even as they enter menopause; most common methods of birth control (particularly condoms) are far from 100 percent effective. Hoskins says, “Appropriately planned pregnancies are the best way to get a healthy mother and a healthy baby.” But Davis points out that, “We’re always going to have unintended pregnancies. Preventing all unintended pregnancies has never been done by any culture, anywhere, at any time.” To read the April 2007 U.S. Supreme Court decision, see http://www.supremecourtus.gov/opinions/06pdf/05-380.pdf.
