We’re referring to different ways to grip the bar. Using the standard pullup as an example: pronated = palms facing away from you (also the predominant grip for the standard bench press) supinated = palms facing toward you (also the predominant grip for the standard bicep curl) alternating or mixed= one palm facing away, one facing towards hook = grip with the thumb first gripping the bar, with the fingers overlapping (see here).
