What does AVR refer to?
AVR stands for Automatic Voltage Regulator. It is usually only found in the larger capacity, and/or better quality portable generators and is used for example to eliminate the flickering of incandescing light globes. AVR is used to maintain the AC output voltage to a very low +/- tolerance of the 240v output. Typically this would be around +/- 5volts. In the case of GMC generators fitted with AVR this is +/- 2volts which is better than what is measured from your home power point which can vary as much as +/- 10 to 15volts.
