What does black friday mean?

3

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. A LOT of people shop on this day, as there are good sales going on. It’s called Black Friday because, traditionally, it’s when retail stores make it out of the red (debt) and into the black (they turn a profit for the first time that year). Back when book keeping was still done by hand in ledgers, debts were marked in red, and profits in black, so if the store was ‘in the red’, they were still in debt, and if they were ‘in the black’ they were finally turning a profit.
