What Does Claymore Mean?
Claymore refers to various things, generally names of places and things. Claymore is a name of a sword. The name is considered to be claidheamh mòr which means ‘big sword’. I t is Gaelic term. Yet another story says that claymore is taken from the word claidheamh da lamh. This word means ‘two-handed sword’. This was a large sword used in the medieval period. It was in use between circa 1300 to 1700 for constant fights and warfare with the English. The last that was fought using this sword is the Battle of Killiecrankie , in 1689. There was another sword by the name claymore. But, this sword had a much shorter height. This was one-handed sword. From eighteenth century, Scottish officers and English officers used this sword. Claymore is also a place in New South Wales in Australia.
