What does “DIN”, or “DIN Standard” mean?

DIN refers to “Deutsche Industrial Normen”, a set of internationally accepted standards for optical systems created in Germany. If a microscope is “DIN” it means that its parts are designed and built to DIN standards and can theoretically be interchanged with any other “DIN” microscope regardless of the manufacturer.
