What does fj stand for?
In the olden days, Toyota produced a light truck model called a 40 series. They came in an Fj and a Hj. The Fj being petrol and the hj being diesel. They have followed that to present with their 75 and 78 series light trucks. That was the factory designation for a specific engine. The FJ cruiser is based on Toyota’s legendary shortwheel base 40 series. And that’s why they called it an fj cruiser. I used to own one a few years ago. The new Fj and the old 40 series share the same grille and headlight surround. And the full name fj cruiser comes from the fj 40 series being a landcruiser model, therefore called an fj ‘landcruiser. We used to also call ’em ‘shorty 40’s’. I hope this helps. Hey i still have a photo on my old one (in bright factory green) i can scan and send if you want to compare.
