What does Jesus Christ Crucifixion symbolise?
Christ crucifixion means that because He took on all our sins in the Jordan River when He was baptised by His chosen servant John the Baptist, He could now pay for all these sins with His life instead of us. Jesus was the spotless and sinless Lamb of God who came and took the sins of the world away (John 1:29). Just like the spotless sacrificial lamb in the OT who took on the sins of the children of Israel, this Jesus was our sacrificial Lamb who took all our sins away. Therefore, without His baptism there could be no Cross (John 3:5). This song composed by Gavin Bryars mocks God and makes Him out to be a liar, for it cuts a divide. It cuts off His righteousness of His water baptism and only upholds the other part of the atonement, therefore all who do this will be cursed by God (Matt 7:21-23).
