What does jihad mean?
The literal meaning of Jihad is to strive. Its primary meaning is that of an inner struggle to live ones life in accordance with the principles of Islam. A secondary meaning is that of an external struggle to promote the principles of Islam in the wider world. This does not translate into holy war. People who use Jihad as an excuse to carry out a holy war are misinterpreting and misrepresenting Islam.
