What does “Lockdown” mean?
Inmates in jail are required to follow jail rules. Violation of jail rules results in disciplinary action, including loss of privileges. Privileges include visits, use of telephone, exercise time, and/or commissary (“stores”.) Any or all of these privileges may be suspended during a specified disciplinary time, known as “lockdown.” Visiting deputies are able to advise when the specified disciplinary time is over. The term “lockdown” may also refer to a security condition in the jail where ALL inmate movement is terminated. Lockdowns are ordered by the jail Watch Commander and are without any notice (meaning Visiting deputies have no prior knowledge of the lockdown and do not know how long the lockdown will continue. These type of lockdowns usually last less than one day; however, visiting will usually be canceled for the day if a no notice lockdown occurs.
