What does modernization mean?
Modernization of a school allows for improvements in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, power and electrical systems, telecommunications, life safety systems (fire detection, fire suppression, and alarm), plumbing, and the general renovation of building interiors. Renovation is also achieved through updating and refurbishing of cabinetry, lockers, doors, windows, walls, floors, and ceilings, bathrooms, along with current code upgrades. Overall, the building being “modernized” will maintain most rooms and spaces as originally designed. This space will, however, be renovated to current learning space standards. There will be some reconfiguration of interior partitions in order to improve the function of the learning space, but for the most part the interior structure of the school will be kept intact.
