Safety on the railway is one of the key concerns and Network Rail is keen to educate local communities about the dangers associated with the new rail line. Our No Messin’ campaign aims to educate young people about the dangers of railway crime while offering them alternative healthy activities to playing on the railway. Network Rail is committed to highlighting the potential dangers associated with an electrified railway to the communities which the railway runs through. At times the trains will be running at full speed through stations. In a bid to target young people in particular with the messages about the potential dangers of the live lines, Network Rail has contacted all the schools along the line of the newly electrified route. We have visited a number of primary and secondary schools to talk about what the new line means to pupils. In total, 20 schools have been visited, equating to almost 5,000 young people. The visits have highlighted the Network Rail No Messin’ campaign to discourage young people from hanging around, or playing on the railway. Working closely with the British Transport Police, youth organisations, and local schools, the Network Rail Community Safety team, encourages local communities to recognise the dangers of messing about by the railway.
