It means monkeys found in Central and South America. It means members of the parvorder "Platyrrhini." It is all Simiiformes that are not apes or Old World monkeys. It is all species that are more closely related to spider monkeys than they are to gorillas. All those definitions fit the bill. Some, but not all, have prehensile tails. All have sideways facing nostrils, which Old World monkeys don't.
