What does Peerguardian protect you from exactly? And what does Block HTTP mean?
It’s definitely a good program. Depending on which blocklists you choose when you first install it, Peerguardian blocks the known IP addresses of computers belonging to snooping police/government offices, lowlife recording industry lawyers (RIAA/MPAA, etc.), and scumbag spyware/virus/spam servers, and keeps them from connecting to your PC. Obviously, these are people who you don’t want seeing what files you’re sharing or uploading dangerous programs to you. “Block HTTP” means that those same IP addresses are blocked from your web browser as well. This option can be useful for blocking pop-ups and banner advertisements on webpages, but might also slow down your browser or keep legitimate webpages from loading as well. I prefer to keep “Block HTTP” turned off and use a different ad-blocking software instead (The Proxomitron).
