PIR is the abbreviation for Passive Infrared, basically it is a sensor that detects and analyzes the movement of infrared (heat) energy. When the security system is armed with a motion detector, the PIR picks up the rapid change in temperature and motion. When this happens the PIR tells the alarm control to sound the siren and notify Central Station. This device is only “armed” when the console is in the “AWAY” mode, in the “STAY” mode the unit is deactivated allowing for freedom of movement when you’re home.

PIR stands for Parrot Intermediate Representation. In the early days, Parrot could only be programmed in Parrot Assembly (PASM), but that soon got an intermediate code compiler (IMCC) to allow for a bit more human readable syntax.
