What does rancid hamburger smell like?
Bad hamburger has a distinct odor. Close your eyes and take a sniff. If it doesn’t smell good, don’t risk it. If it has been less than three days since the expiration date on the package, I would take it back. Usually a store will just exchange it with not a lot of questions asked at all. One thing about bad hamburger, once you start to cook it, the smell seems to get worse. If you were sort of iffy about it being bad, starting to cook it will convince you if it is. Good luck.
