What does RBC believe regarding the Holy Communion and sacraments?
If by “sacrament” you mean something that we do in order to gain God’s grace, the Bible teaches that we receive God’s grace not by anything we do but by accepting the gift of what Jesus has done for us. We accept his gift by trusting him as Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9 says, “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” At RBC, we do celebrate communion and believe it is one of the two ordinances Christ gave the church. Water baptism would be the other. Although Jesus instituted communion on a Thursday night, He said “as often as you do this, do it in remembrance of Me.” Clearly, Jesus did not give us a specific time, nor frequency that communion should be practiced. Therefore, we practice communion, as a congregation, once each month at a weekend service. However, we also practice communion anytime and anywhere, as circumstances may warrant.
