What does SS genotype mean?
I only know of AS and SS, and AA, but i have never heard of LS. AA is the genotype for a normal body in which the RBC’s (Red blood cells or better termed erythrocytes) are shaped like a disk and can carry oxygen around the body very efficiently. AS exists when a human body has a trait of the SS gene, but isn’t completely SS. This individual has mostly normal cells, and a few abnormal cells that reassemble an SS cell. SS is the gene for Sickle cell which is when your red blood cells reassemble a sickle (Look up a picture). The SS red blood cells are so abnormal in their shape that the body doesn’t maximally transport oxygen to the body’s cells. The sickly cells because they are not round and disk shaped, can also get stuck inside blood vessels and cause extreme pain. This sickness is a real pain.
