What does the Copyright Law allow in the face-to-face classroom?
Section 110(1) is a very broad and liberal section that allows displays and performances of copyrighted works in the f-2-f classroom. The only prohibition in this section is the use of illegal copies. They cannot be used. Any type of audio-visual work or sound recording can be performed only in the f-2-f classroom to meet the instructional objectives of the class. However, section 107, the Fair Use Doctrine of the Copyright Law, does place limitations on the use of materials that are not performances or displays. Fair use refers to the copying and distribution of copyrighted works in the f-2-f classroom.
