Yasmin is an oral contraceptive for women used for birth control.
Yasmin is prescribed by a doctor to prevent pregnancy. This drug stops ovulation from occurring by thickening the inside lining of the cervix and uterus. Besides being prescribed for birth control; sometimes it is prescribed for the symptoms that are linked with premenstrual syndrome. Some of the symptoms that Yasmin helps to alleviate include weight gain, anxiety and muscle pain.
This is a hormonal birth control and it contains progestin and estrogen. The type of progestin in Yasmin is drospirenone. It is a different type of progestin that isn’t found in traditional birth control pills. Because of this, the side effects for Yasmin are somewhat different from other types of contraceptive pills.
Some of the most common side effects that have been reported are somewhat similar to those that have different ingredients. Some of the side effects include headache, spotting between periods and nausea. Yasmin has a higher dose of progestin than traditional birth control pills.
There have been clinical trials done that show that Yasmin helps reduce the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder, which is a severe case of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). The trials also showed that women taking Yasmin reduce the severity of acne breakouts. Other women reported that this contraceptive didn’t cause them to gain weight like some other birth control pills do. Another benefit of this drug is that is reduces the chance of a women developing ovarian and endometrial cancers.
