What does the price survey entail?
The price survey entails the collection of retail price data for a basket of goods and services from retail outlets patronized by professional staff. The list of outlets is drawn up by the survey coordinator at the duty station, working in collaboration with the local survey committee. The list of outlets is approved by the Chairman of the ICSC. The price collection itself is carried out by pricing teams led by staff of the ICSC secretariat, assisted by local pricing agents recruited from the National Statistics Office at the duty station, and in collaboration with observers nominated by the local survey coordinator. The prices collected at the duty station are compared with similar data in New York to measure price relativities between the two duty stations.
