I won’t explain what it is because a top contributor already explained it, but I wan’t to clarify some of the exagerations going on here. Overclocking can break your computer is done without caution, but if you don’t mess with voltages, than you can still get a lot more performance out of your computer without the risk of damaging it permanently. Overclocking will not provide noticable performance in applications like MS Word, or the pc’s operating system, but it will improve gaming performance greatly (to a degree). If you are not a hard-core gamer, than there’s no point in overclocking. Overclocking is only risky when increasing voltages or if your temperature raises beyond 60 C, and even then, all AMD CPU’s have thermal sensors that will automatically shut down the PC if temperature rises to dangerous levels.
