What Does The Word Luau Means?
People throughout the world used to celebrate happy moments and events by feasting. Luau is a Hawaiian word that means “a feast”. Luau is an occasion where people who live in Hawaiian Islands gather family and friends to have good food and have fun. The earlier name for such feasts that Hawaii people used is ‘aha ‘aina. In ancient times, it was tradition of Hawaii people to celebrate important events with a feast like birth of a child, victory in a war, after construction of a new house, graduation of person or a wedding ceremony. Hawaiians feel pride in having feast in this way they honor their many Gods and share their achievement with their family and friends. Luau has a history of about 150 years. Earlier in Hawaii women were not allowed to eat certain delicacy and they eat apart however, it all changed by King Kamehameha II who eliminated this practice.
