What does UCAS Points Mean ?
UCAS points are tariffed against your A Level/BTEC Results. The higher the grade you get, the more points you get. Over here A-Levels are a 2 year course – split into AS and A2. AS you get half of the total points you could score at A2. For example: AS LEVEL (first year of A Levels – half an A Level is achieved at the end of this year) A – 60 UCAS points B – 50 UCAS points C – 40 UCAS points D – 30 UCAS points E – 20 UCAS points A LEVEL (final/second year of A Levels, the full A Level is achieved) A – 120 UCAS points B – 100 UCAS points C – 80 UCAS points D – 60 UCAS points E – 40 UCAS points Some other courses such as BTEC National Certification doubles the amount of points you can get from a full A Level, as most BTECs are the equivalent to two full A Levels. These are graded in Pass, Merit, Distinction. These are 2 year courses and there is no qualification at the end of the first year, so you pretty much HAVE to do the second year in order to get the qualification. Heres the gradin
